Disability

Schools have a responsibility to ensure that disabled pupils have access to education and that they and their carers are given appropriate support. There is full information on schools' responsibilities with regard to meeting the needs of disabled pupils in TeacherNet's Special Educational Needs and Disability discrimination areas.

Find out how LAs and schools can improve their access strategies and plans for disabled pupils with guidance from the Accessibility Planning Project (APP).

The Department is running free, regional workshops for primary schools, special schools and pupil referral units during the 2007 summer term, to help them develop their disability equality schemes. See a full list of dates and venues, and register online for an event using conference code 975837 and password pdes.  Alternatively, email the conference organisers at pdes@pauljamesassociates.co.uk or telephone 0115 943 5589 for more information.
