Brief description of project: The school put together a core team to help raise ethnic minority achievement. The team developed a matrix of outreach and support services for families and pupils which involved working with key partners such as: Hillingdon Adult Education, Health Authority, Policy Community Liaison Officers, and Healthy Hillingdon. The services available included drop in sessions, advice sessions, and group activities for targeted groups of pupils. By bringing together a variety of partners, including community organisations, the school is seen as a central reference point for all families to seek help or support.
Outcomes
- Pupils and families know where to go for help and support. In three months there was 220 visits by parents.
- Staff have developed a strong understanding of the community and confidence in handling issues.
- Parents are more supportive of the school, including attending events.
Success criteria
- Publicising the service via a variety of routes.
- Engaging with a variety of organisations, including community organisations, to develop the matrix of services.
- Providing a variety of services, so that there is something to suit different people and different situations.
