Useful websites for D&T

  • British Nutrition Foundation has developed a food and nutrition programme for use in schools. It is designed to be integrated into curriculum requirements, particularly those concerned with science and D&T.
  • Cracking Ideas uses lessons plans, a nationwide invention competition and teaching resources to bring innovation into lessons for Key Stage 2 as a part of the National Curriculum.
  • DATA is the recognised professional association which represents all those involved in design and technology education and associated subject areas. Their website has resources for teachers including lesson plans and case studies.
  • Design Council
    A teaching and learning resource containing case studies, product profiles, projects and information on Designers Into Schools Week.
  • The Design Museum
    This website contains an education section which provides five free downloadable projects focusing on topics ranging from chair design to innovative manufacturers such as Dyson. Different projects are suitable for different Key Stages.
  • D&T Online
    Resources and explanations for secondary pupils on a variety of topics.
  • Engineering Education Scheme
    This website encourages gifted and talented Year 12 students to consider engineering as a career by helping them work with a professional engineer on a project over a period of five months.
  • www.helenhudspith.com collects together free resources to share and adapt when teaching a wide range of design and technology subjects including food, graphics and textiles.
  • How Stuff Works
    This American website is a fantastic resource, explaining in clear terms how everything around us works. There are often great animations that can be incorporated into class teaching.
  • Kitronik
    These free resources offer a number of topics to do with electronics that students at Key Stages 3 and 4 can read about before checking their knowledge on a multiple choice test. The resources can be downloaded as PDFs for future reference.
  • National Association of Advisers and Inspectors in Design and Technology (NAAIDT)
    This organisation exists to raise standards in, and further the cause of, D&T as an entitlement in the curriculum of all pupils.
  • Primary Design and Technology
    The place to find Key Stages 1 and 2 classroom materials to download and other resources for teachers.
  • Secondary Design and Technology
    Secondary resources providing a wide range of pupil material for both Key Stages 3 and 4, information about the Nuffield approach to D&T and a section dedicated to designing at Key Stage 4.
  • STEMNET
    STEMNET aims to encourage young people to be well informed about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). It offers resources and advice for teachers, including case studies and guidance on setting up afterschool clubs.
  • The STEM Advisory Forum
    This is an opportunity for all those interested in the teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to contribute their views on the STEM agenda. The views expressed on this website will be used to help inform the DCSF and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills in taking forward the Government's STEM agenda.
  • Technology Enhancement Programme (TEP)
    This site offers a range of curriculum materials to support teachers and pupils at Key Stages 3 and 4, particularly low cost equipment to support technical innovation.
