Growing Schools
The outdoor classroom
The Growing Schools programme was set up in 2001 with the aim of giving all children the opportunity to connect with the living environment. It focuses on three particular areas that are accessible to all as a context for learning. They are:
-
food and farming, including the managed countryside
-
gardens, gardening and open spaces
-
wildlife and the natural environment.
The Growing Schools website is designed to support teachers
using the 'outdoor classroom' as a resource across the curriculum for
pupils of all ages. It includes a section with teaching activities that can be searched by key stage or
subject.
