New primary National Curriculum

The National Curriculum website now contains the new primary National Curriculum, which will be introduced in September 2011. Features include an interactive video tour of the website, and a short guide with in-depth information about the new curriculum. There are innovative and interactive tools to support curriculum design, and materials to help teachers embed the essentials for learning and life, and work with areas of learning.

Independent Review of the Primary Curriculum

In April 2009 Sir Jim Rose published the final report of his review of the primary curriculum in England. The report and other related links, including examples of cross-curriculum teaching, draft programmes of learning and links to videos of headteachers talking about the review, are available on the Independent Review website.

Schemes of work

Schemes of work, which are not statutory, can be taken as a starting point for planning. They give support and guidance for primary teachers in developing the curriculum by:

  • embedding English and mathematics across the curriculum
  • adapting schemes of work
  • combining units from different subject schemes.
