Teaching unions and associations, allied professional organisations and
networks can offer information and support to education professionals.
They undertake a wide range of activities, for example:

organising continuing professional development (CPD) activities, networking opportunities and events such as conferences
- acting as a public voice on behalf of members
- promoting improved standards of teaching in the UK.
The General Teaching Council for England (GTC) is the professional body for teachers, an independent organisation set up to represent teachers' professional interests and to support all teachers in providing the best possible educational opportunities for young people.
