What is CPD?

Continuing professional development (CPD) supports individual needs and improves professional practice. CPD may take place within school, through school networks, or be delivered by external providers. All teachers should have access to high-quality training and development opportunities throughout their career.

The continuing professional development area of the TDA (Training and Development Agency for Schools) website gives an overview of what is meant by CPD and looks at many other aspects of professional development. It discusses early professional development (the phase of professional development that is undertaken in the early years of a teaching career) and examines opportunities for those returning to teaching. Further information is also available in the TDA's CPD zone.
