Performance-management training
-
What training is available for teachers?
We will encourage more teachers to take advantage of the 'leading from the middle' programme now available from the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services (NCLSCS) and existing training delivered by Performance Management Consultants (PMCs) to develop their team leader role in the PM system. -
What are the new performance management support materials you are launching in the Performance Management 2003 Conferences?
We have produced a School Pack which will contain a support guide for governors and head teachers, and two training videos accompanied by a workbook. These materials will bring together all the information governors and head teachers will need to understand their wider responsibilities, conduct effective review meetings, and realise the benefits of an integrated performance management system in their school. We have also produced a training Toolkit for trainers of governors and head teachers which comprises a bank of resource materials. -
Why are the pay support materials for governors and head teachers not yet available?
Publication of this new material is on hold until we know the outcomes from the School Teacher's Review Body (STRB), who are reporting earlier than usual this year. We will produce materials which are more helpful having had the benefit of the STRB's consideration of Threshold and Upper Pay Scale issues. -
Who is attending the Performance Management 2003 Conferences?
The conferences are aimed at those responsible for governor training, school improvement, human resource management, or continuous professional development. Invitations were sent to the CEOs of all LEAs requesting that up to three nominations be made. Invitations were also sent to our partners in other representative bodies. The purpose of these conferences will be to launch the new materials and guide delegates in how best to utilise the new training Toolkit. It is expected that delegates will cascade this learning to their appropriate colleagues who could not attend. -
How will I be able to obtain these new support materials?
Delegates at the conferences will receive their own copies of all the materials. Otherwise, copies will be available from 4 October 2003 by calling DCSF Publications on 0845 60 222 60, or by email. -
How will schools find out about these new support materials?
We will be sending out a flyer advertising the materials to all schools in October with information on how to order them. -
Will these materials be provided free of charge?
Yes. -
Will I still be able to use the original guidance and training material?
These new materials build on the materials which have previously been available for governors and head teachers. Trainers are free to use the materials flexibly depending on the training needs they need to meet, adding their own local dimension. -
Who can use the training Toolkit?
The Toolkit is a bank of resource materials designed to be used by those who train governors and head teachers. They may be used in any combination to accommodate the varying needs of governors and head teachers in terms of time available, existing levels of knowledge and skills, and required emphasis of training sessions. -
Can headteachers have a copy of the training Toolkit?
Yes, they can get a copy from DCSF Publications (Prolog) by calling 0845 60 222 60, or by email, and asking for reference LEA0260/2003 (Please note when ordering from Prolog that there is no forward slash between LEA and 0260/2003). -
I've looked through all your FAQs and still have questions which need answering. Who can I contact?
For general enquiries on performance management, threshold, or other aspects of the work of the DCSF you may call the Public Enquiry Unit on 0870 000 2288.
