Community policing and schooling webcast
Thursday, 21 January, 2010.
Introduction
If the next generation of children are to become responsible members of society, it is vital that a long term trusting relationship is built up with the police. A positive memorable event with the police at a young age could help to foster a lifetime's goodwill towards them. Brinsworth Howarth Primary School Rotherham held such an event, organised by Kash Walayat, OBE as part of a mentoring project aimed at building police awareness in the local community and schools.
Primary school children and parents participated throughout the day in interactive school lessons regarding community policing ending in a special landing of a police helicopter in their schools grounds. As well as tours inside and outside of the helicopter, police talked about the importance of community engagement and building positive relationships with the children.
Head teacher Maxine Crawford welcomed the visit and thought that the whole event went well and that both children and parents benefited immensely.
